¿Cómo saber si es melanoma o lunar?
21 ver

Differentiating between a common mole (nevus) and a melanoma can be challenging, but certain key features can help you identify potential signs of concern. Here’s how to tell the difference:
Shape and Size:
- Melanoma: Asymmetry is a tell-tale sign of melanoma. One half of the lesion may look different from the other. It may also be irregularly shaped with notched or scalloped borders. Melanoma tends to be larger than 6 millimeters in diameter (about the size of a pencil eraser).
- Common Mole: Moles are typically round or oval and symmetrical. They usually have smooth, well-defined edges.
Color:
- Melanoma: Melanomas can exhibit a variation in color, ranging from shades of brown and black to red, pink, or white. They may have multiple colors within the same lesion.
- Common Mole: Common moles are usually uniform in color, typically shades of brown.
Texture:
- Melanoma: Melanomas may become elevated or raised. They can develop a rough, scaly, or crusty surface. Sometimes, the surface may ulcerate or bleed.
- Common Mole: Moles are commonly flat and smooth to the touch.
Changes Over Time:
- Melanoma: Any mole that changes in size, shape, color, or texture should be examined by a dermatologist immediately.
- Common Mole: Common moles typically remain stable and do not change significantly over time.
Other Red Flags:
- Bleeding or Oozing: Melanoma may bleed or ooze, especially if the surface is ulcerated.
- Itching or Pain: Melanomas can sometimes cause itching or pain, which is not typical of common moles.
- Multiple Melanomas: Having multiple melanomas increases the risk of developing more.
It’s important to note that not all melanomas will exhibit all these features. If you notice any unusual changes in a mole or any new mole that meets these criteria, schedule an appointment with a dermatologist for further evaluation. Early diagnosis and treatment of melanoma greatly improve the chances of successful outcomes.
