For students eagerly awaiting summer break, Vietnam offers an early taste of freedom. While many countries see their school doors close in June or even July, Vietnamese students finish their academic year by the end of May. This means long, sunny days and endless adventures arrive earlier than in many parts of the world.

The academic calendar in Vietnam generally runs from early September to late May. The new school year (2024-2025, for instance) kicks off with an opening ceremony on September 5th, a festive occasion marking the start of a fresh learning journey. However, students don’t get to ease into things slowly. They return to the classroom a full week before the ceremony to settle in and prepare for the year ahead.

There’s a slight variation for the youngest learners. First graders begin their academic journey even earlier, starting school a full two weeks before the official opening ceremony. This extra time allows them to acclimate to the school environment and get a head start on their educational journey.
