How to Retrieve Your Wi-Fi Password

Forgetting your Wi-Fi password can be frustrating, especially if you need to connect a new device or share it with a guest. Fortunately, there are several ways to find out your password, both on your computer and through your router’s settings.

Method 1: Find Password on Your Computer

This method works for both Windows and Mac computers.

Windows:

  1. Open the Settings app (Windows key + I).
  2. Click on Network & Internet.
  3. In the left pane, click on Wi-Fi.
  4. Under Known networks, select your Wi-Fi network.
  5. Click on the Properties button.
  6. In the Security tab, check the Show characters box.
  7. Your password will now be visible in the Network security key field.

Mac:

  1. Open System Preferences.
  2. Click on Network.
  3. Select your Wi-Fi network in the left pane.
  4. Click on the Advanced button.
  5. In the Wi-Fi tab, click on the Show Password button.
  6. Your password will now be displayed.

Method 2: Find Password on Your Router

If you have access to your router, you can also find your password there. The steps may vary depending on your router model, but generally:

  1. Connect to your router’s web interface. The default IP address is usually 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1.
  2. Enter the default username and password. This information is usually printed on a sticker on the bottom of your router.
  3. Navigate to the Wireless or Security tab.
  4. Locate the Wi-Fi Password or Network Key field.
  5. Your password will be displayed here.

Tips:

  • If you have changed your router’s default username and password, make sure you use the current ones to access the web interface.
  • If you’re still unable to find your password, try resetting your router to its factory settings. This will erase all your settings, so make sure you have a backup.
  • For added security, consider using a strong and unique password for your Wi-Fi network.
