The Australian Electronic Travel Authority (eTA) is a visa that allows eligible travelers to enter Australia for tourism or business purposes. It is valid for a period of one year or until the expiration of the traveler’s passport, whichever occurs sooner.

This validity period allows multiple entries into Australia within the one-year timeframe. Each visit can last up to three months. For example, if an eTA holder enters Australia on June 1st, they can stay until September 1st. They can then leave Australia and return multiple times within the next 11 months, up until May 31st of the following year.

It’s important to note that the validity period of an eTA begins from the date of issue, not from the date of entry into Australia. Therefore, it is recommended to apply for an eTA well in advance of your planned trip to ensure it is valid for the desired travel period.

If an eTA holder’s passport expires before the eTA validity period ends, they will need to apply for a new eTA before re-entering Australia. It is also important to ensure that the passport used to apply for the eTA is valid for at least six months beyond the intended departure date from Australia.
