Can I draw my own route on Google Maps on my iPhone?
Create Custom Routes with Google Maps on Your iPhone
Whether you’re planning a road trip or simply exploring your local area, having a reliable navigation tool is essential. Google Maps is a popular choice, offering comprehensive maps, real-time traffic updates, and turn-by-turn navigation. But what if you want to create your own custom routes?
Fortunately, it’s possible to draw your own routes on Google Maps, even on your iPhone. While the process may not be as intuitive as using a desktop computer, it’s still straightforward. Here’s a step-by-step guide:
Step 1: Create a Google My Maps Account
Google My Maps allows you to create and share custom maps. To get started, visit the Google My Maps website (https://mymaps.google.com) and sign in with your Google account.
Step 2: Open Google Maps
On your iPhone, open the Google Maps app. Tap the menu icon in the top left corner and select “Your Places.”
Step 3: Find “Maps”
Scroll down and tap “Maps” under “Created by you.”
Step 4: Create a New Map
Tap the blue “Create Map” button. Give your map a name and description, and click “Create.”
Step 5: Start Drawing Your Route
Now you’ll be taken to the Google My Maps website in a mobile browser. Click the “Directions” button in the toolbar. Enter your starting point and destination.
Step 6: Customize Your Route
To draw your custom route, click on the map and start adding waypoints. You can drag and drop these waypoints to adjust the route. To add multiple stops, click the “Add destination” button.
Step 7: Save and Export
Once you’re satisfied with your route, click “Done.” Give your route a name and click “Save.” You can now access your custom route in the Google Maps app on your iPhone.
Note: While you can create custom routes on your iPhone using Google My Maps, you cannot directly export them to the Google Maps app. To export your route, you’ll need to use the Google My Maps website on a desktop computer.
