Prior to the railway’s construction, journeys between Laos and China were lengthy and arduous. However, the new rail line has dramatically shortened travel times. From Kunming to Xishuangbanna, the journey now takes just three and a quarter hours, compared to several hours previously.

The railway has also significantly improved accessibility to Puer, a city in southwest Yunnan. The journey from Kunming to Puer now takes under three hours, making it a convenient destination for both tourists and business travelers.
