Singapore’s Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system is an efficient and convenient way to navigate the city. As a tourist, it’s essential to understand the different payment methods available to pay for your MRT rides.

Contactless Cards

Contactless cards such as Visa payWave, Mastercard PayPass, and American Express ExpressPay are widely accepted at MRT stations. Simply tap your card on the fare reader at the start and end of your journey. The fare will be automatically deducted from your account.

Mobile Wallets

Mobile wallets like Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay offer a convenient alternative to contactless cards. Simply add your payment card to your mobile device and hold it near the fare reader to pay for your ride.

Stored-Value Cards

Singapore has two major stored-value cards that can be used on the MRT: the EZ-Link card and the NETS FlashPay card. Both cards can be purchased at MRT stations, convenience stores, and selected retail outlets.

To use a stored-value card, you need to top it up with funds at any Ticket Office or Add Value Machine in MRT stations. Once loaded, hold the card against the fare reader to pay for your ride.

Cash
