Is Wi-Fi free on Swiss trains?
Enjoy Complimentary Wi-Fi on Swiss Trains
Travelers on Swiss national long-distance trains can now stay connected with complimentary Wi-Fi. The Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) offers free internet access through its FreeSurf app, available for download on both iOS and Android devices.
Connect to the Wi-Fi network on the train and launch the FreeSurf app. You’ll be redirected to a login page, where you can choose to create a free account or log in with an existing one. Once you’re logged in, you’ll have access to unlimited Wi-Fi for the duration of your journey.
International Connectivity
International travelers can also connect to Wi-Fi on Swiss trains using their own mobile provider’s SIM card. Participating mobile providers include Vodafone, Orange, and Swisscom.
To connect using your SIM card, disable data roaming and connect to the Swiss Wi-Fi network. You’ll be prompted to enter your mobile number and a verification code sent via SMS. Once you’re verified, you’ll have access to limited Wi-Fi data.
Uninterrupted Connection
The Wi-Fi service on Swiss trains is designed to provide seamless connectivity throughout your journey. The trains are equipped with multiple Wi-Fi access points, ensuring stable and reliable signal strength.
Whether you’re catching up on emails, browsing the web, or streaming videos, you can enjoy uninterrupted internet access during your train ride. This convenience makes travel time more productive and enjoyable.
Note:
- The FreeSurf app is only compatible with Swiss mobile numbers.
- The Wi-Fi speed may vary depending on the train and the number of users connected.
- Some content, such as video streaming, may consume more data and may not be suitable for use with a limited Wi-Fi connection.
