Tracking the Status of Your Nonimmigrant Visa Application

When you apply for a nonimmigrant visa to the United States, the U.S. Department of State’s Consular Electronic Application Center (CEAC) provides a convenient way to monitor the status of your application.

Checking the Status on the CEAC Website

To check the status of your application, visit the CEAC website’s launch page at https://ceac.state.gov/. On the homepage, you will find a section titled “Check My Visa Status.”

Required Information

To access your application status, you will need to provide the following information:

  • Your passport number
  • The barcode number from your visa application form (DS-160 or DS-156)
  • Your birth date

Status Updates

Once you have entered the required information, CEAC will display the current status of your application. This status will typically fall into one of the following categories:

  • Initial review: Your application is being reviewed by a consular officer.
  • Pending administrative processing: Additional information or processing is required before a decision can be made.
  • Approved: Your visa has been approved.
  • Refused: Your visa application has been denied.

Recent Case Searchability

CEAC’s website also allows you to search for recent cases from within the last year. This feature can provide helpful insights into the processing times for similar visa applications.

Note:

  • If you have already scheduled an interview, you will see that information reflected on the status page.
  • The CEAC website is the official source of visa status information. Any other websites or services claiming to provide this information may be unreliable.
  • If you have any questions about the status of your application, please contact the U.S. embassy or consulate where you applied.
