How to Check the Status of Your Visa Application

Once you have submitted your visa application, you will be able to check its status online or by phone.

Online Case Status Tool

The online case status tool is the quickest and easiest way to check the status of your visa application. To use the tool, you will need your 13-character receipt number from your application or petition.

1. Go to the USCIS website: https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/landing.do
2. Enter your receipt number in the “Case Status” field.
3. Click on the “Check Status” button.

The case status tool will display the current status of your application, as well as any recent updates.

USCIS Contact Center

You can also check the status of your visa application by calling the USCIS Contact Center at 1-800-375-5283. When you call, you will need to provide the agent with your receipt number.

The USCIS Contact Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM Eastern Time.

What to Do if Your Case Status is “Pending”

If your case status is “pending”, it means that your application is still being processed by USCIS. There is no set time frame for how long it will take for your application to be processed, but you can check the USCIS website for processing times for your specific visa type.

If you have been waiting for a long time and your case status is still “pending”, you can contact the USCIS Contact Center to inquire about the status of your application.

What to Do if Your Case Status is “Denied”

If your case status is “denied”, it means that your visa application has been denied. You will receive a notice from USCIS explaining the reasons for the denial.

If you believe that your application was denied in error, you can appeal the decision. You will have 30 days from the date of the denial notice to file an appeal.
