Who Needs an eTA for Travel to Canada?
To enter Canada by air without a visa, foreign nationals must obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). This electronic authorization is linked to your passport and is valid for up to five years, or until your passport expires.
Who is Exempt from the eTA Requirement?
The following categories of travelers are exempt from the eTA requirement:
- Citizens of Canada
- Permanent residents of Canada
- US citizens and green card holders
- Travelers with a valid Canadian visa
- Travelers who have already been approved for a refugee claim in Canada

Application Process
To apply for an eTA, you will need a valid passport, a credit card, and an email address. The application process typically takes a few minutes, but can take up to 72 hours in some cases.
Once approved, the eTA will be linked to your passport and will be valid for travel to Canada by air for up to five years.
