Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park in Quang Binh Province – the middle of Vietnam-is one out of ten world cultural heritages of Vietnam. Having high value of geologic history, terrain, and geomorphology, Phong Nha– Ke Bang is endowed with mysterious and grandiose landscapes.
National Park Phong Nha – Ke Bang in Quang Binh – Central Vietnam. With an area of 200,000 hectares, Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park is located in the districts of Quang Ninh, Bo Trach, Tuyen Hoa and Minh Hoa, Dong Hoi City and 50km northwest.
The Park’s landscape is formed by limestone plateaux and tropical forests. It features great geological diversity and offers spectacular phenomena, including a large number of caves and underground rivers. The site harbours a high level of biodiversity and many endemic species. The extension ensures a more coherent ecosystem while providing additional protection to the catchment areas that are of vital importance for the integrity of limestone landscapes.
It contains many natural mysteries with caves which likes luxurious palace inside limestone mountain formed over thounsands of years.
Phong Nha -Ke Bang is compared as a huge geologic museum having high value, worldwide meaning due to its complicated structure, gathering place of various stones such as sandstone, quartz, schist, limestone containg silic, marl, granodiorite stone, aplite stone, pegmatite stone, etc. Phong Nha-Ke Bang contains geologic history of development complicated geology over 400 million years ago of the Earth. The important tectonic stages and fault movement phases, and folds created continuous mountains, sedimentary basin subsidence. These movements contribute to various geology, terrain, and geomorphology.
Especially, Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park is secondly recognized as World Natural Heritage by UNESCO on 2 criteria: ecosystem, and biodiversity becoming the third out of four in Asia and the first one in area with 3 in 4 important criteria.
It has diverisy of natural creature. Up to now, there are 2651 kind of vascular plants, 735 vertebratas, 369 insects in here. All of them are local kinds in which 116 kinds of plants and 129 kinds of animals are listed in Vietnam Red book, under Decree No. 32 of Vietnam and IUCN Red book 2006. There are 28 kinds of fauna and flaura having economic and scientific value are threatened with worldwwide level.
The diversity of limestone mountain, cave, hill etc. facilitate the living condition for 9 out of 21 primate ( making up 43 % kind of Vietnamese primate). There are 3 endemic animals in Truong Son range, they are Trachypithecus hatinhensis, Pygathric , gibbon in which Trachypithecus hatinhensis is only found in Phong Nha-Ke Bang karst and near area.

National Park Phong Nha – Ke Bang hides many mysteries of nature, the cave as the magnificent castle in limestone mountains are artifacts from millions of years ago.
